LOTA MUSEUM

China Xiamen 2012

The “Lota Museum” project is located in Xiamen, in the east side of China, adjacent to the sea. It is a special intervention because it substitutes an existing project where the load-bearing structure had already been built.
The new study has taken into account what had already been built and the new needs of the customers and it focused on the front (the existing structure did not present big restrictions) and on the indoor space. The building's volumetric composition is characterized by the overlapping of two simple volumes.
The front's purpose is to shape the rigid volume into a dynamic complex characterized by sinuous blades which develop in the three dimensions.
The indoor space is characterized by two paths at different levels connected by a ramp that coils around the pillars.
